My Engine Temp Gauge on Dash Stays ON COLD! Help!
I just bought the 2005 Audi A6 4.2 S Line from Ohio Audi Connection... I live in Chicago and I have had the car 12 days and the Gauge on the Dash for the engine Temperature doesnt work. I searched the forums last night and found an common issue with the Temperature Gauge sensor. I paid 48.00 today and bought the sensor with the clip and rig and had it installed with my European experts but it did Not change the problem. I can't really afford the 165.00 an hour at Audi? Any ideas???? The check engine light is NOT on! Just this issue.
Wow , your Audi dealer get's 165 an hour. I'm too cheap!
You will have to have a diagnostic tool like Vag--Com so you can go in & see actual data. It is possible the cluster could have a problem , could be a bad connection but all are guesses without the data your vehicle is reading.

I dont know but I took the car to Fletcher Jones Audi in Chicago this morning to find out what is really going on. That will cost me 150.00. Does the thermostat cost alot to repair?
Yes if the problem is still there the ecu will store a code. If the ecu detects this issue 40 times in one ignition it will throw a MIL as stated by Audi
Also my car had the same symptoms as yours and I did the whole timing belt on it replacing the thermostat and it fixed the issues.
