Need MMI Update Help
This is my first post, so pls forgive if this is the wrong area for the subject.
I just purchased my first Audi and am extremely satisfied with this car. I am the proud owner of a 2005 A6 C6 in great condition inside and out. The previous owner installed SAT radio but no NAV (bummer). I've just ordered the Dension IPOD/USB kit and would like to update the MMI firmware before I install it.
I am currently running what I understand to be an ancient firmware version (7.5) and believe I need to upgrade to 4160 or beyond. Pls help by answering a few questions.
1) am I running MMI high or low
2) can I upgrade directly to 4160 or most current version or do I have to update in series
3) I can't access the green menu by holding down car/setup buttons. Is that because of the old firmware
4) will firmware update have any impact on my current Bluetooth and SAT radio capability (currently satisfied with both)
5) where can I download / buy the latest software
Pls feel free to PM me with answers

1) Do you have a color or monochrome screen between the tach and the speedo. If it is color I believe that means you have high.
2) No, you cannot upgrade directly. You need to perform the intermediate upgrade to 2570 first see http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2607361
3) Not sure what you are trying to do here.
4) Should not have any affect, mine did not.
5) Genuinevwaudiparts.com has them. Order the part numbers in the above link. They are about $7 each.
Make sure that you hook up a battery charger under the hood during the upgrade. Be Patient. The upgrades together can take a couple of hours.

MMI Update
ManyAudis, thanks for the reply. I'll order the updates today.
The display On dash has red lettering, therefore assuming MMI low.
Also, Ive been told that you can change the MMI start screen by accessing a menu using a car / setup simultaneous button push. Saw it done on a YouTube vid.

If you can't access the menu, you need to activate it with VAG-com or at a dealer.
When accessing the menu, only one of the buttons shall have a red light.
The bluetooth sometimes falls out when you upgrade, if it does, just run disc2 again.
The latest software is 55.70.
