You better start with reading the DTC.
Deduction and pondering do after having grounds with facts!

The motor has to be running when you pull the plug or the fluid just runs out the hole.
So one CAN actually do it but with the motor running. Is that the correct translation?

I'm becoming more and more sure that the problem is in the TCM, is this an easy part to change? What should it run me?
Fluid -- 99A6Quattro -- I gotta be careful here -- MY 87 A6 2.8 and your 99 A6 might be a bit different. The method for checking the level in my vehicle is clearly outlined in the Bentley manual. If I open the plug without the motor running the fluid comes out. If I open it with the motor running and the oil temp is below 45C ( I don't remember the exact temp. but it is in the manual) fluid should not run out. As the temp increases the fluid should begin to drip when VagCom reaches the prescribed temp. If it dosen't I add more fluid till it drips. Then I let the mess cool and do it all over again till it is right.

I'm not sure about the TCM. It might need to be matched to your vehicle with VAGcom someone like Auditech79 is the best source for that info.

I can't seem to locate the place to plug in the DTC to read the codes anymore, I don't remember where I put it in last time. Can anyone tell me where I can find it?

I checked the DTC, and there are no codes for the engine or the transmission.

Would you be able to describe haw did you check for codes?
What tool used?
What procedure followed?

Is there a difference driving on sport or manual shift?

I just plugged in the DTC code reader (looks something like this: http://img.alibaba.com/photo/1038968...ode_Reader.jpg) and pressed scan the engine and the transmission, and neither showed any codes.

I never use the manual shift, I am too scared to use it, I fear I may do something wrong. My brother used the manual shift a while back and the check engine light went on, but later went back off.

The motor must only be idling when the side ATF fill plug is removed. Do not remove the drain plug. Also, the car must be level on jack stands with all driven wheels off the ground.
Your OBDII scanner may not be programed to read the transmission DTC code or the transmission temperature. The VAG-COM from www.ross-tech.com or equal must be used for non-OBDII DTC.

99A6Quattro,

You used MaxScan GS500 - it might not be able to read VAG codes.

The one specific is:
MaxScan VAG405
