Default need tech advice on 98-2001 a6

hey guys im in the process of debating between 4 very nice a6. all quatros. 2 are the non turbo v6 the others are the turbo. just wanting to know what to be picky about and what to look for. im omw to look at 3 of them tonight. i coming up from drving chopped and gutted hondas so all the shiny bits are scary to me and i know from my brothes passat that at least vw has some silly wire problems with cars the same years as i am looking at. thanks in advance for any advice on this situation...

Well, they are quite complex cars compared to hondas. 2.7ts are more fun to drive; non turbos have less power but are more reliable; auto trans is a trouble spot (especially on the turbos). Biggest thing is if they have been taken care of. If the owner has lots of maintenance records and most work was done by a good dealer or knowledgeable Audi mechanic, then you're in better shape. Price should be a function of condition and mileage, but really well taken care of cars can last almost forever (mine has over 217,000 miles).
Just plan to spend a fair amount on maintenance - these cars take special fluids of all types, and parts are expensive, and things will wear out - $2-3K per year in normal maintenance is not unusual at all. Reolacing a transmission will run $2.5 or more; replacing turbos can run $3-4K up.
