Default <-- New; Just bought 00 A6 for $12k. Updated w/PICS 7/16

I am glad to be on this forum. I will be happy to read about all of things I should have BEFORE I bought the car. j/k, my buddy is a hardcore VW/Audi guy and he helped me through the process.

I was looking at $10-11k for nice 00-01's with 60-80k miles here in my market (Pittsburgh). Then I found a one owner 2000 A6 2.8L quattro, 42k miles car, true 9.5/10 beige on beige (few scratches on rear bumper behind trunk) and a tiny dent in rear LH door for $13k. I drove it and tested everything and there wasn't a single hiccup on the car. Carfax clean, both keys, manual, new tires, dealer maintenance records, most if not all options and everything worked. I got him down to $12k.

It seems to not be a steal, but I think I did ok based on the condition and mileage. What do you think?

I would never buy a A6 in a 2.8 liter.... but thats just me.Good it's got low miles. Enjoy her, just don't be expecting to be doing any kind of performance mods because the list of aftermarket parts for that car is basically non existent. Sounds like a nice car though!

I have the same car, no it does not go fast, but it will get you there in style, good gas milage...

Just look in to the complete front end, timming belt/water pump and the cam seals...

Right at 60-70K it seems that EVERY suspension part gives out on u... and brakes..

I have toys already, so it sounds like the lack of parts will work to my advantage and prevent me from putting any money into the car for going faster. I purposely chose the 2.8L. I like how it is underpowered for the transmission, robust and reliable. I was told that used T cars were just rolling the dice, and my friends Passat is a prime example. Unless they were meticulously kept, the potential for sludge and turbo issuesis almost a given.

This car is a commuter so I can keep the FUN one in the garage. :-)

I just bought a Audi A6 2001 Quattro. Same size engine, I think? I have not recieved the car yet due to a crack in the windshield, he replaced the windshield today and I'll pick it up Saturday. I bought mine for $10,250 with 103,000 miles on it. It was his daily driver, mostly highways. All documents are there for all tune-ups at the dealer. The only thing bad is the paint which is why its a little lower but will be driving it to different parts of town for my job so that will be ok.

I also have the FUN commuter in the garage. :-}

I bought my 00 2.8l avant with 114k on it last year for 9k. I also wanted the 2.8l for its reliability and the fact that the transmission could easily handle the power. I was burned too many times in the past with turbo Saabs, not turbo problems, but transmissions not being able to handle the power. The 2.7 also scared me with the stories I read online. In hindsight, I kind of wish I had bought a 2.7, but I am very pleased with my 2.8. That beautiful whine/whirl of the 2.7 is just mesmerizing. Whenever one pulls up next to me I just want to follow it around town just to hear it accelerate.

I bought mine 2 years ago with 60K for 10K with brand new 20" wheels and tires. Great car, just doing all the normal maintance to it.
Next time I will go with a 4.2, but right now the gas milage is real good to have.

If you're not interested in serious performance, you have a great car at a reasonable price. It is stylish and luxurious and fairly reliable. I hope it's a quattro, considering you are in Pittsburgh. If it is, you'll be very happy with it as a winter driver.

I have had no suspension problems in 100k miles. I did replace the timing belt and related parts at 96k (manual called for 105k).You should probablyplan ondoing it around 80k because your car is older. Plan on~$1500-1600 from the dealer and ~$1000-1200 from a reliable independent who knows Audis.

Here are pics of the new ride...

I am stoked so far! The Audi service log was with the car, and low and behold all of the maintenance items were in there with the dealer's stamps. This car has never missed a thing in terms of preventative maintenance. I will be interested to see what the MPGs are and I just look forward to having a nice car.

I pulled the top engine cover off and it looked fine underneath. There looks to be a little bit of dirt amassing around the front LH corner of the LH valve cover indicating some possible seeping, but nothing I am going to lose sleep over. The oil looked good when I look at the dipstick and there is no gunk on the oil filler cover.

You guys keep mentioning the great gas milage, im curious to know how good? I have the 2.7T and I am about 2seconds away from getting rid of it due to the gas being absolutly absurd. I'm in a state of shock on how bad it is...My parents drive an S500 that has this huge V8 300 horsepower engine and the gas got to be 4-5MPG better....

Im looking at about 15MPG on my 2001 A6 2.7T with about 72k on it....What am I looking at the 2.8l?
