I am glad to be on this forum. I will be happy to read about all of things I should have BEFORE I bought the car. j/k, my buddy is a hardcore VW/Audi guy and he helped me through the process.

I was looking at $10-11k for nice 00-01's with 60-80k miles here in my market (Pittsburgh). Then I found a one owner 2000 A6 2.8L quattro, 42k miles car, true 9.5/10 beige on beige (few scratches on rear bumper behind trunk) and a tiny dent in rear LH door for $13k. I drove it and tested everything and there wasn't a single hiccup on the car. Carfax clean, both keys, manual, new tires, dealer maintenance records, most if not all options and everything worked. I got him down to $12k.

It seems to not be a steal, but I think I did ok based on the condition and mileage. What do you think?
i also got the 2.8 and i love that car

I just sold my 99 2.8. With 18" wheels on it i was getting about 18-19mpg in city and 22-25 on the highway. 2.8s are reliable and like mentioned above, obviously not the fastest thing around but I sure enjoyed mine while i had it. I have had several A6s and tried every powerplant they have. If i had to choose one outright, it would be the 4.2.....

Dale_Gribble:

Again, welcome to the Audi "club". That's a nice looking vehicle - the engine compartment looks clean and that's a good sign (generally). The mileage is low. Is it a quattro? I don't know much about the 2.8l but I thought it came in both flavors.

My 2.7T gets 18-19 around town and between 22-24 and 24-25 on the highway depending on how fast I am driving. I've never had the patience to drive any long distances at 55-60, but the lower mpg are at 75-90mph and the higher are at 65-75mph. I actually accelerate slowly and conservatively (99% of the time), but I have a lead foot on the interstate. I just completed a 2800 mile trip last month with 4 passengers and a full trunk of luggage, driving 70-75, and computed 23 mpg overall.

That is a NICE car... What are the specs on wheels/tires? I am trying to figure out what has the correct offset and clears the calipers without spacers.
