the car is leaking gas

The previous owner says he had no idea, however he did say the fuel pump was replaced which could cause this. I have loosened the gas cap and this seems to stop it, as it's only occuring in the wam (70's) weather.

Any ideas? Fuel ring maybe?

 

Maybe they didn't install it right n the rubber seal thingy is loose? Either way is easy to acces the fuel pump n see if that's where is leaking from!
Take rear seat out n remove the plastic cover behind passenger seat n check it out.

Hey Mad Bison, welcome to the club. My son has the same car 2000 A6 2.7T 6 spd.
The surround on the rear door speakers was completely disintegrated, but with new rear door speakers we were never getting any sound. I suspect rear amp is bad. It's located on rear right side behind panels. We haven't torn into it because still chasing engine related problems. I'll stay tuned to see if you get amp/subwoofer/speakers working, & how. His dash pulled fine for us & we sent to module masters & they fixed center display. Another interior item that you'll likely encounter is front windows **** on the track & you'll need to replace a plastic guide that wears out. Hope you get the gas leaked fixed.

 

Just about to go pull the rear seat out now.

Car is plated and driveable finally! Looks like i lost 1/4tank to leaking :S

rear speakers don't work...am going to look at the amp now and see what the go is as well.

Trying to buy a whole replacement cluster and fix the screen, and just get the mileage recoded

 

Don't know if you noticed it, but there is a "Gas Odor" sticky on A6 main page. Maybe that can give you some insight to your leak.

 

Yeh i'd read that. I'm really hoping I don't have drop the entire rear assembly to fix the leak.

I know they replaced the fuel pump...so i'm really hoping it's just a little issue with maybe the o-ring and not the EVAP lines.

I didn't get around to looking at it today. I had to replace the alternator on a ford escort zx2.

It looks like I lost about 1/4tank due to leaking over about 2 weeks

 

i got same lcd with broken pixels..
how do you fix them?? is there a way i can fix it myself, without sending my cluster anywhere???

 

RS, Try contacting Module Masters to see if they'll sell you the replacement info panel, rather than having them replace it. I had my center panel repaired by them & no complaints.

Mad-Bison, We had no working rear speakers too. Found out it was a fried rear amp, which is located behind right rear panel. Pulled the old rear amp & woofer & replaced with new amp mounted in trunk below rear window. I have the wiring info at rear harness if neeeded.

 

Yes, you can fix it yourself, if you know how to do reflow soldering on surface mount components on a printed circuit board...
I sent mine out to be done professionally, and I'm an electrical engineer (and I even have all the tools to do hot-air reflow soldering) - I'd rather pay a few bucks to get it done right by someone with experience doing it - if you damage the cluster, you're really in trouble, since the immobilizer is in there and the car won't even run without it...

Yeh i'm an engineer too and i'm going to send mine.

I have to fix my side mirror first now though, thanks to a lovely motorcycle rider who smashed it off.

Re the rear speakers - i'm pretty sure the amp is dead too. I tried all the VAG-com diagnostics for the radio and it didn't fix anything so i'll replace that when I can find a 2nd hand one!

Car is fun to drive About to replace 2 post cat o2 sensors as they are fried, and my coolant sensor as that is a bit slow to respond sometimes.
