Default New A6 - Quattro or FrontTrak

Hi guys...
I am new to the Audi forums. After owning BMW's for the last 11 years (including E36 & E46 M3's), time has come for a change

I am planning to buy a 2007 or 2008 A6 for my wife. She is absolutely in love with the looks of the A6. I want to make sure that the car is reliable and safe.

We live in FL, it doesn't snow but it rains quite a bit during summer including heavy downpours.

My question is how does the Quattro AWD compare to the FrontTrak FWD. What is the performance difference, mileage difference and most importantly do I really need the Quattro for non-snowy weather.

Oh...it's going to be the 3.0 litre engine.

Sorry if this question is too obvious or if opening a can of worms

Looking forward to getting my A6 soon.

Thanks & regards.
Mat

In my opinon since you are getting an Audi i'd say go for the quattro, but since you're getting the 3.0 engine the performance figures won't be that diffrent. Since the car is non turbo and only 255HP.

If it were making more power Quattro would quicker.

If you are looking to get better millage since the car is full time AWD the FWD would be more fuel efficent.

Quattro is not just for snowy roads, its also a saftey feature so i'm sure you could add that on with insurnace. Test drive both the fwd and the Quattro and see for yourself. I personaly like the quattro since you feel like you are glued to the road no matter what situations.

I love the quattro, I have only had spin out during heavy downpores in it and it was because of a slick medal man-hole on the back tires. The car handles great with quattro in the wet, snow, and dry. I love having that assurance.

I spent 5 years in Ft Myers and those heavy daily storms put down a lot of water in a little time. While FWD will probably do fine, having the rear under control may help. Of course, if the front end floats, power through the rear isn't going to do much for you. What is nice is the ESC, ABS, about 8 air bags, and a sturdy, heavy car (~3900 lbs). I'm not sure the mileage difference is that great, but full time AWDprobably imposes a mileage penalty over FWD.

I think the 2007-08 come with the 3.2l engine, but I haven't researched newer A6s since I am quite content with my 2003.

Get the Quattro. As far as the engine, the 3.0 is not available in the 07 and the 08. The two choices are the 3.2 and the 4.2. I have the 4.2, which I find to be more enjoyable than the 3.2. If you don't care about power, the 3.2 is ok.

I read somewhere that an Audi without a quattro is a VW. I agree.
