New to Audi could use some advice
Hello recently i have been looking at buying a 2000-2004 audi a6 4.2 quattro i have found a few within these years that i am intrested in buying but i figured i would ask around on some forums to see if there where any major defects or flaws in these years. Im sure this kind of posts comes up alot so i am sorry for the repost.
Read the posts in this forim and do a search on the 4.2 -- You'll get and idea about what you might run into.
If your mechanically limited an older Audi is not a good choice unless you have lots of money and patience.

i tried searching the forum but it said there were not any results but just looking a couple posts down i seen something about a belt
timing adjustment does that apply to the models i am intrested in? also i am not handy with cars but i have alot of family that is, and i
know how expensive older german cars can be my brother has been funneling alot of money into his 2002 bmw 540i...this will be my first
car but for a 17 year old i make very good money where i work and i think i can handle surprise repair bills.

Good news! The 4.2 have a timing chain that does not need replacement!
Your search may need to be expanded to oder posts.
The major complaint is how tight the engine is in the bay. Some of the parts can be expensive, but if you search the internet enough, you can always find a good deal. Remember, the same engine was used in the A8, so don't limit yourself to searching for parts / advice in the A6 area.
There is a thread somewhere asking 2.7T owners if they'd do it again, or if they'd go with a 4.2. Most, due to the belts and turbos, would go to a 4.2. Take it for what it's worth.
