New bulbs
HI can anyone help? I recently changed my standard bulbs for some Osram H1nightbreakers, they are appalling, the company who sold them first say the headlamps may need to re aligned. I dont undertand surely it just a case of swapping them over? I live in the country and regulary drive on unlit roads so good lighting is very important. Has anyone got any experience of these bulbs or could suggest an alternative. The car is 2000 A6 on a w reg.

You need to upgrade to HID if your car does not already have them...
There are many vendors on the web that sell HID, just be sure to get the entire kits and not fall for the Xenon bulbs only which don't do jack for your headlights.
Prices have dropped significantly and a car kit can be had for under $100.00.
True HID will provide 3 times as much light as halogen.
Personally I try to stay with 4200-5000K (color temperature) as thta is closer to natural light. Others prefer 6000 or higher to get that blue tint that tell cops you installed an illegal HID kit in your car! LOL
Try HID and stop wasting your money on gimmick halogen bulbs that won't light up the road for you!

this will be the best suggestion for you... go to this website http://ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html get the 55 watt 4500k HID set. thats going to be the best thing you can buy, it will put out 5-6 times the light you have now and will not show a bulb out warning because there 55 watts the same as a halogen thats your best option and they have H1 bulbs.. your total for that should be about 75 bucks.

if your going to pay more for a 35 watt kit then just dont get em at all. its worth more to have a 55 watt kit and there not unsafe for other drivers because there in projectors.. if they were in reflectors then yes they would be unsafe.. but there not at all unsafe.. id highly recommend a 55 watt kit if you want bang for your buck and a good quality set. and also since there halogen projectors youd want 55 watts too because the halogen projectors are not as great for light output.. but i use to have the h1 headlights on my 99 a6 and i had a 55watt kit and it was a GREAT improvment and had no brights flashed at me because the healights were at perfect level, if you know what your doing and aim the headlights at a good level you wont have any problems with blinding other people oncoming.

afstud6900, I currently have a 35w 5000k hid kit in my car. I am concerned that 55w will blind oncoming drivers. I know that currently when people fall below my cut offs they are blinded. Did you have a 35w set before getting the 55w? I ask because if they don't blind others, I would like to upgrade to the 55w's.
I have read that the 55w kits wash out the light color. So my 5000k 35w would be similar to 6000k 55w I guess. Any suggestions?
I owned 6000k 35w bulbs in the past and they were too blue/purple. The 5000k I own now look identical to oem. So I'm thinking 6k 55w.
