New bulbs
ive gone through so many sets of hids and projectors and everything in every car ive owned..ive done so much with retrofits with projectors and when this 55 watt kit came along it has given me the most light and least amount of problems from DDM tuning.. but it will not look anymore blinding to people that fall under the cut off i know this from comparison of having one headlight with a 35 and the other with a 55 it will only be brighter on the ground.. you will notice a huge difference the cut off lines will be more defined and the ground so much more illuminated vs 35watts. sure everyone will hate you because youll flood out there headlights but its worth it. i would get nothing more than 4500k set because 4500 gives out the most amount of light and especially in projectors that is crucial and there a a little bit more white than normal halogens..
55 watt HID kits are not street legal, not that any HID is street at all, but a 55 watt kit will draw a lot more attention to the cops. If 35 watt of HID is not bright enough for you, get a good set of fog lights or driving lights.
where do you live that HIDS are not legal ? people here have 12000k hids in reflectors and they dont get anymore attention that a person with halogens.. and why waste the money to get more headlights on your car and then have the trouble of wireing them up when you can just get a 55 watt kit? most audis and bmw and mercedes come with HID anyways so cops never notice it.. and there only illegal if there in reflectors in some states, but i would just get a 55 watt kit and be done with it... then you dont have to have more headlights on the car and find a place to mount them and wire em up and a whole waste of time for somthing that does nothing anyways..
Any after market HID kit is not DOT approved for public road in the USA. If you go to any creditable HID site, you will see a disclaimer similar to the one below:
XXXXXXX.com is not responsible for the use of our HID products on public road, The use of aftermarket HID products is illegal in the USA and should only be used for show or off-road purposes.

That is because these kits only contain the HID capsules, ballasts, and igniters, but not the required projectors. The kits can be installed in standard headlight housings.
35W or 55W won't make a difference (legally speaking) if they don't go inside an HID projector.
Those using very blueish HID bulbs are more likely to get pulled over because the mod is very visible. An HID kit in a standard headlight housing works quite well if the aim is properly adjusted, and cops are not likely to harrass you for having better lighting. This has been my experience...

exactly.. but the 55s put much more amounts of light on the ground compared to 35w. if the statment about hids being illegal were true, no automakers would have them in cars.. . duh! xenons are xenons weather there oem or aftermarket if they look oem then you have no problem!
All HID conversion kits, no matter the source, are not DOT approved if installed outside of the factory. If you install a HID into a projector lense, then your chance of getting pull over by the cops is very very slim, none the less it is still illegal and the cops can give you a ticket or you may not pass state inspection. Your chance of getting pull over increases if you install HID kits in reflector housing, go up in wattage or if your color temp is too high.

do cops ever care about your headlights? no! they just warn you if ones out.. at least around here theres no inspection on headlights..thats rediculous... but id say still go for 55watts you wont be disapointed, and make sure there in projectors.
Although I do have illegal aftermarket hids in my a6, I do wish we had inspections.
