Welcome Guys..I too am a 4.2 owner and have owned it for a little over a year now. It is fun, but time to get some more power. An exhaust system is a good start but I have heard many many times that the APR Chip for TCU and ECU does not unleash the fury as it does in the 2.7t's. No supercharger for these cars either. I think us 4.2 owners are stuck in the mud. Any better ideas? The catback and chips would prolly only gain 20 hp. For the 3k or so it would cost to upgrade ($500 per chip + $1500 + labor for echaust) it equates to $150 per horse. Hmmmm...not worth it to me. I have been looking for an S6 motor which is the same 4.2 but with a better intake, cams, and puts out 340HP vs. our 300HP. No luck yet. I am drawing the conclusion that if I want a faster car, I might as well sell the A6 and go get one.

Thoughts??

I know I can't help Audi wise, but my previous car has a lot of roads you could go. You could go all motor, or go the FI route. I went supercharger, but looking back I think I should have went the TT route. They are getting really nice gains with that (anywhere from 550RWHP to 700-800. Even 1 I know with 900RWHP) Trouble is REAR WHEEL DRIVE. Launching with 500 was bad enough...and I had enough. That's why I'm sitting in an A6. I know I won't be getting those numbers again, but I was doing 150 MPH+ runs on the way home from work everyday. Obviously not smart. With the A6, I feel I'm going to make it home every night, and my GF think so too. Trying to be good, you know? My next project (way down the road) will be something that is 100% non street legal....track only. That way I can't kill myself.

Actually, there is a supercharger available for the 4.2: http://motodyne.com/frames/4.2LSC.html. It is ungodly expensive, though!

I am used to owning cars that have a huge aftermarket following and your upgrade options are pretty limitless. This is a new experience for me, as it looks like I will just be going the ECU/Tranny chip route, some sort of custom exhaust work (NOT paying $1500+ for pipes and mufflers), and an air intake (only one of which I have been able to find - lltek). That should provide a modest boost in power and sound a lot better as well.

Good luck & cheers![sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Your chipped 2.7T should do 150mph - the chip also removes the 133mph electronic governor.

As long as we are getting nostalgic about GTOs, my favorites were the two that my (richer) high school buddies had: a 1964 4-speed and a 1968 with his-hers shifter in that famous green. I thought going 110mph in the 1964 was fast but I've done better by 50% with my A6 and it felt a lot steadier.
