Yep there is a slit there , it "hides" in there, the booklet makes a good place to put your insurance information, registration..etc... instead of robbing space in the glove compartment

The owners manual might be on the drivers side under the steering wheel close to your knees.

If the manual is not under the steering wheel, check the side compartment in the trunk on the driver's side. I keep my manual in there on a small shelf under the jack to reduce clutter in the cab. Both side compartments are handy to store extra oil, a flashlight, contraband, etc.
