i think it would probably help a lot if you posted what year a6, although i'm assuming it's a c4 of one form or another. did you wanna just upgrade the headlights to HIDs, or actually take the '99 a6 headlight housing and try to somehow fit it to your car?

I believe he is saying he wants to upgrade his regular 99 A6's headlights to Xenon HID's.

well since you already have a c5, you should already have the proper headlight housings with the projector lenses, so all you really need to do is get an HID kit from somewhere. that's really about all you would have to do, just install the balasts and pop and HID Xenons in it, and you should be done, and that should all come in the kit.

I suggest you look up xenons on googleand learn as much about them as you can such as the different color temps and bulb types, along with the different manufacturers of xenons. Only then will you be able to make the most educated choice for what you want to achieve eith you A6.

If you want OEM Audi looking hids, get 4300k. I had 6000k and they looked bluish purple to others and blue on the road. So 10k would look dark purple to others and dark blue for you. OEM is 4100/4300k, keep in mind that the bulbs will change to their final color after (can't remember) hours.

AZAudiA6Q gave good advise, do a lot or research on HID color temps.

One last thing, projector housings (like ours) bend the light an therefor change its color. So 6k might look white on a Acura, but blue/purple on an C5 A6.
