Default New used car Antifreeze leaking badly

I just picked up the car yesterday 2000 a6 2.7 with 106,000 miles. At first, everything seemed fine. This morning I started her up and she was running still for about 20 minutes when my wife told me that there was green fluid flowing at the back of the car. It smelled like antifreeze. When I checked under the hood, it was empty and the light was on in the car. I’m planning on dropping it off at the local Audi dealership first thing tomorrow to see if its fixable first before brining it back because, I really fell in love with it during the drive home last night. PS I’v owned BMW’s all my life and currently is the process of converting my M# to full race so I thought this would be a great car for daily driving in NJ. Any ideas on what the issue could be? HELP!!!

Default For starters, the anti-freeze should be pink

These cars use G12 coolant.

Could be lots of things, but if you just picked it up, you should take it back and have them fix it (if that's an option).

The 2.7's seem to have an issue with coolant leaking from the after run pump. Drive the car and see if it leaks while you are driving it or if it leaks when you park it.

A big second our cars do not use the Green coolant that is something you should address as well

Thank you... took it to the Audi service center today. Need to replace the secondary coolent pump and flush the system due to the wrong coolent ($1,450 WOW). I have two BMW's and I just thought Audi's were a little less on the repair side...

Default Did you take it back to where you bought it?

I hope they didn't make you pay. That's extremely high for that work. Should be no more than $750. I paid ~$500 at an independent. If I had it to do over again, I'd do it myself.

Skyers,

I came from the BWM seen as well. The AUDI is a different beast. But from what I have heard the 2.7 is a great way to go. Check to make sure that the timing belt and service has been done. If the car had the wrong coolant you might want to find a reputable shop/dealer to talk to. The after run pump is not to hard to change some people just bypass them. not saying that you should do that but it must be a big pain if people are just getting rid of it all together.

I had the same problem. I was told that it was a water pump that delivered coolant to the turbos. They had to loosen the manifold to get to it. The pump was $115, the gaskets were about $12, but they charged 7 hours of labor at $95 dollars an hour to fix it. I also had a leaking overflow reservoir. Good luck
