Our new Audi A6 (picked it up lat Thursday) gave us a transmission error - no reverse gear. I was able to drive it to the Audi dealer, but I believe it only used the third gear.

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else here, how it happened and why. If you had any experience with such an error, I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me if this is a one-time thing or if this is an omen for things to come. (We are currently leasing the car, but we are considering purchasing the car at the end of the lease.)

it is rare, but not unheard of, to have issues with a brand new car. IIRC there is a software issue with some of the new transmissions putting the car into "limp" mode, which is what sounds like what happened in your case. I'd be interested to hear what kind of story they end up telling you.
