Thumbs down No Right Turns Allowed

We are an Audi family. Three A4s an A8 and my good ol girl a 97 A6 Avant Quattro 2.8. Ive seen the extended menu of quirky issues with this many Audis in my life but the A6 issue is ready to be taken to 221b Baker Street. When ever I come to a stop sign and turn right, regardless of terrain, the A6 remains stuck in 2nd gear until I pull over, turn it off and restart the car. It then shifts perfectly through all the gears without issue for the rest of the time until I stop and turn right. Turning left-No Problem. Driving at highway speed through a sweeping right hand turn-No problem. I have replaced the TCM and am now considering replacing the throttle body. I have a VAG code box and it kicks out no related warnings. Please give me your educated opinions, otherwise I will be forced to live forever in an counter clockwise world....

Now why didn't I think of that? Maybe this is a prototype car for Audi's run on Daytona...

I'd take a close look at the transmission wiring harness to see if it rubs on the steering rack or other moving steering part. 2nd gear is default mode when a serious fault occurs such as a short to ground or loss of communication between the TCM and trans solenoids or TCM and PCM, etc.....Maybe turning right the harness contacts the inner tie rod or steering shaft. Turning the engine off resets it until the fault happens again.
Chances of the throttle body being at fault are very slim. Is odd that no fault codes are stored. Did you check ALL the modules by chance?

Thanks for the lead. I will run the VAG code reader immediately upon having this issue. I will find a way to put it up on a rack and look for this and post my findings. Thanks again for your help.

If You have a Ross Tech unit it will give you very clear codes, which will point you in the right direction. I have just had problems with my TCU and all of these units comminicate with each other. For example the engine idle is effected when the TCU is not communicating with the ECU. Dont be surprised if its the stearing angle sensor.

Where exactly is the steering angle sensor located, and is there only one sensor?

The sensor is a large unit which is under the stearing wheel and wraps around the stearing columb Unfortunately Audi only sell it complete with the columb. But dont go stripping things until you have had the car scanned. It will come up with a fault someting like 'intermittent communications with.... and the guilty component. You will then also see that component causing similar comms issues with other components which will confirm.
