Sorry, I have not been on the forum in a few... but yes, that is your problem.
Since my car came with Bilstein when I bought it I don't have a point of reference with stock shocks. The Bilstein kit lower coil support does not come with a notch or anything to indicate where the bottom of the spring should be oriented. The Bentley manual was pretty useless in that regard too; I got the best info here on the forum....

Damn I have never heard that about the spring alignment. I've been trying to track down a noise in my front end after doing my control arms, shocks, springs, and sway bars. Everything is tight, but I have this low pitched "ping" sound that sort of sounds like if you hit one of your springs with a rubber mallet that shows up from time to time, especially if you're on a gravel road.

What is the reasoning behind the alignment of the springs? Obviously there's some mechanical logic, but I don't see it. Can someone explain?
