Hello All,

Just purchased an '06 A6 Quattro S-line, and had a few questions as I was not given an owners manual:

1- What does the button on the right side of the steering wheel, and the left side of the volume key do...I dont have tech package on this car...was this the voice command button that is inactive in my model?

2- Are headlight washers standard in the A6, and if so how do I activate them?

3- The side view mirrors have a "heat" picture in the middle, but when I have the control for the side mirrors facing the "heat" picture and press down on it, nothing happens...there is a light on the button but it does not turn on, so how do I know if it is active or not?

4- How can I tell if the car has the upgraded leather option or not? Is there a visible difference or anyway to tell readily?

5- What does the valet button do? I was only given one key so I am going to order another one...and perhaps a valet key??

1 - It is the voice command button

2 -Headlight washers were part of the s-line package. They are automatically activated when the headlights are on and the windshield washer fluid is activated from the stalk.

3- There is no light that comes on when the mirror defrosters are activated.

4 - The upgrade is softer leather. The standard leather is just the seating surfaces. The upgrade leather also put leather on the doors and the arm rests.

5 - I have the advanced key, so I do not have a valet button. Can't he;p you.

Thank you for the responses! I still have some questions, though:

1- So is it inactive for my car? I ask, because I had an acura, and without the nav option, they did not put the Nav buttons...so if the voice command button is there, does this mean I have it?

2- So when I come to wash the windsheilds it squirts both the main windshield and the head lights? (assuming they are on)

3- How do I know if the defroster is on, then? If it is pointing to the defrost, does that mean it is defrosting? Do I need to push down on the button? What does the light on the button do? Also, I noticed if I have it pointing towards the passenger exterior mirror and I go in reverse it points down, but when putting it back in drive it does not go up again, unless I manually move the button to point to the middle (defrost) or the driver side mirror...In my Acura, it would go down while in reverse and go back to normal when going into Drive.

4- I cannot tell, still if it is upgraded or not as I have no point of reference as to what "softer" is...the side doors and the arm rest seem to be covered with Leather like wrapping, but then again it could be synthetic material.

5- Still Dont know what the valet key does...I am looking for the manual on ebay hopefully I will get answeres before then, though.

6- How do I turn off the Air????????????? If I press the fan button the lowest possible setting is a fan speed of 1...and if I put it in Auto, well it is always auto...is there no complete OFF button that will turn off the fans completely?

1) All of the cars came with the voice button. However, you had to purchase the voice module in order for the voice button to actually do anything.

2) Yes.

3) There were issues with the passenger mirror and the reverse function which were fixed with a TSB software update. I am guessing that the car's prior owner did not get the software updated.

4) If the priorowner did not pay for the voice recognition module, he probably did not pay for the leather upgrade.

6) If you push the "econ" button the air turns off.

 

I'll help Kev out on the last question as he may have misunderstood it.

6) If you continue to press the - button, just above the fan speedindicator display, the fans should eventually turnoff.

 

When I re-read the question I think I may have been mistaken. I gave you the answer for turning off the AC compressor, i.e. "the air". If you want to turn off the fans in the C6 you are unable to do that. The answer Khardysius gave for turning off the fan works in the C5, but it does not work in the C6. The C6, at least in the states, is an MMI car. The best you can do in theC6 is turn the fan speed down to one, turn off the AC compressor and direct the air flow to a vent that you do not find objectionable.

 

Thank you!!! That was very helpful! The car has Navi, Satellite, Premium package, S-line exterior package, Cold Weather Package, TPMS, etc. So its fairly well equipt, that is why I asked about the Voice command button...I may end up using the VAG-COM update to get things going. Thanks again.

 

If you didnt get an answer to valet then here it is,

It's another key with no remote funtions and once you turn on the valet switch and give the key to valet, they cannot open glove box, trunk etc. so your things are like in a safe. Hope this helps..

I have the same model but have technology package too that includes voice recognition, park assist etc. Send me PM if you have any additional questions.

 

Not to resurrect an old thread, but you CAN turn the fans off completely, hold the econ button down for 4-5 seconds and it shuts off.
