Oil Consumption Question
So I'm driving to work this morning and about 2 miles from my house the check engine oil level yellow warning light came on. I pulled over into a Walmart parking lot, popped the hood and checked the oil level (are humans supposed to know how to read this most ridiculous dipstick ever?) I saw (I think) oil on the dipstick. Got back in the car started it and the warning did not return. I drove to work and then back home. When I got home I waited for a few mins then checked the oil again and the dipstick was bone dry. I added half quart of Mobil 1 synthetic 0w-40 then drive around, came back and let the car sit for a few. When I checked there was oil on the dipstick. Will see in the morning what the dipstick says however do you guys have to keep topping up your oil? Does this car have an oil consumption problem?
I have a 2002 A6 Quattro 3.0 and I did an oil change about 2 months ago. I've driven 1000 miles in that time.

You should also remove the skid plate at the bottom if your haven't already for a few days and see if you are having oil leak to the ground.
If you had the low oil light flash on you adding half a quart will do nothing. The low light doesn't come on until the car is around 1.5Q low or more. Keep adding oil. Add the remainder of that half quart and see if you get any results.
Maybe whoever did the oil change didn't properly add enough oil, you have leaks, or the car possible consumed the oil. My 2.8 uses 1Q in 1700-2000 miles of rotella. According to Audi it's normal if the car uses 1Q in 1000 miles. :/
My A6 does not use any oil at 206k. My daughter's 2003 A4 3.0 just turned 100k and ran into your situation once after driving 400 miles on a real hot day and sitting for an hour at a border crossing. We took in into my indie for an oil change a month later and he checked the drip pan and variou seals and there was no sign of leakage. She just drove it back to school (500 miles) and checked it again, and it was fine. The previous poster gave you good advice.
