Default Ok question from a noobie [again]

Absolutely love the Audi TT's...

Question

If you blow a turbo can you continue to drive it or does it need to be fixed before it is taken on the road?

What happens[damage?] when you drive a car with a blown turbo?

Thanks for your input!!

You want to replace the turbo before driving. A blown turbo will usually release motor oil into the exhaust system, resulting in massive amounts of smoke. If the turbo is replaced quickly, you can run the motor while the car sits still and burn off any residual oil that is in the exhaust system. If not, the oil will get into the cat and ruin it which will cost you more money.Plus the turbo will sound like a police siren and will be annoying behind the wheel, not to mention that the car will have ZERO power. Also a new turbo requires a 1000 mile break in period to where you would need to drive the car at virtually ZERO boost, which can be done.
