Over $4,000 in repairs/maintenance. Help!
Can anyone tell me if these prices are reasonable:
- Replace timing belt, water pump, rollers, thermostat, serpentine belt, plugs, and filters ($1650)
- Replace front CV boots ($650)
- Replace secondary coolant pump ($712)
- Replace cam seals on both sides ($1030)
- Replace one o2 sensor ($450)
Any help is appreciated! These types of repairs are hard to swallow.

RE: Over $4,000 in repairs/maintenance. Help!
I had one CV boot replaced on my03 when I first bought it. They also did a complete check of the car (since it wasnew to me) including a full diagnostic and then I had them perform an oil change withMobil 1....total bill was only $300 so if you shop is charging $650 for two boots then yes I think that is high.
My shop also quoted me around $1000 for the timing belt replacement including the pulleys andwaterpump etc.
I don't know about the rest as I don't have any personal experience with them, but are you sure you want to keep this thing knowing that $4000 won't increase the release value even half that much?

If you want to drive that car – optimize the repairs and bargain on pricing.
Think about dropping the engine end replacing the turbos ( as this is next).

The timing belt deffinatly sounds about right, i got an estimate of $1200 not to long ago, Im going to wait it out untill the turbos blow though. I asked the mechanic and he told me that the belt looks fine and there is no need to change it for a year or two. As for the o2 sensors you could save $200 if you do it yourself. It's a PITA, but deffinatly do able. The only thing is $200 out of $4000 isn't such a big deal.

Here's the deal: I owe 11,500 on the car and I am getting trade in estimates of around $7k. The work to get it fixed is less than the difference between trade and the buyout. I love the car, but have a love/hate thing going on. Every dealer I have taken it to has told me they dont want to take a chance on used Audi/VW unless they are in warranty. Even the Audi dealer told me the reason they wont offer much in trade is because they know about the numerous issues. My only fear is if I keep it, something else will happen like a blown head gasket or major engine failure which makes all the mintenance things worthless.
By the way, how much to replace the turbos? I would like to replace with the K04's I believe they are (ones from the RS4)

Geez. I got my timing belt and everything done at a indy mechanic for 350.00 He is great and my uncle has been going there for 15 years, I have been there for 6. Find a good quality indy mechanic, buy your own parts (ecstuning.com) and you can save quite a bit.

I am going to tell you the same thing I told you on your prior thread regarding the repairs and the trade-in value; take your lumps and dump the car.The car is about to get very expensive for the next years ortwo.
