Pain in the ass day.
Drove about an hour on the interstate to my destination at about 75 mph the entire way.
Got there. Turned off my car (2000 2.7T). Got out, made a phone call for about 5-10 minutes. Got back in a started it up and the EPC light comes on and its struggling to hold an idle. Also it wont go past 2400 RPM. I stop the car and start going through my GPS for a VW or Audi dealer in the area. 10 minutes later I start it up and it runs fine. So I start going down the road towards the VW dealer I managed to find when I have to stop to get cash for a toll. Turn off the car, and it wont start, just cranks over. Let it sit for 10 minutes again, and it starts up and I get it to the dealer.
They check the codes and first it comes up with O2 sensor and throttle body. They let me know, and then they try to start it up again and the EPC comes on and wont go past 2400 RPM. So they tell me its either the ignition switch or the entire ECM. So they check the ignition switch and its ok, but also he mentioned they cleaned all the connections and what not and started it up and its running fine. They take it for about a 10 mile test drive and come back with the answer of "the heat may have messed with part of the connection to the ECM." The codes were gone and all dashboard lights were absent.
They only charge me for the time, and tell me to have it inspected further when I go back home. I drive it back an hour to home, and it runs as well as it ever has...same story today.
I think my situation is unique according to the searches I've performed on the forums here. Also, I wouldn't say I'm completely ignorant to automobiles, but the only knowledge I've gained is learning from malfunctions on previous cars I've driven. Any experts here have any advice after reading my series of events? Thanks a lot for your time and any possible suggestions you can offer. (Car has 94k, recently replaced t/b and I've had it problem free since January 1.)
