PLEASE help...fuel tank concern
Hi. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated (car advice please...)
After dropping my wife and I at the airport in my 2003 A6 2.7T, my sister in-law decided to go for a joyride and ran out of gas. She knew she was low on gas and ran out on the way to the pump. She pulled over on the side of the road and got a friend to deliver a gas can with appx. 2 gallons of gas. Apparently, that didn't allow the car to start. Well, now the car is in the pound because the police thought it was abandoned. When I go to pick up my car, what can I expect? Should I bring more gas from a gas can? The dealer said that should work, but I am wondering about the possibility of the catalytic converter being damaged. I'm refering to the Note in the manual: "Don't drive until the fuel tank is completely empty. Gasoline could get in the exhaust system and damage the catalytic converter." But still, would that prevent the car from starting?
Thanks,
Louie

I thin we have a fuel reset button in the trunk somwhere...forget what they're called...try it.These cars definitely do nnot like to be low or out of gas! I never let mine run out... Chekc your owner manual

Usually there is close to a gallon of gas in the system, and if you run out gas completely you should need more than 2 gallons the start the car adequately. I say about 4 gallons should do it. Just fill her up with 2 additional gallons, and turn on the ignition to on position without starting the car. Let the fuel pump build pressure and try to start it. It should work fine.
