Please help my 99 a6
Hi, there
Here are some frustrating issues I have encountered for my 1999 Audi a6 2.8 quattro.
1. Fuse (No.14) keep buring out. I don't know how to find the place of short circuit.
2. The onboard diagnosis system shows all doors are opened except driver door even all doors are closed tightly.
3. The car can not be shifted to the fifth gear no matter under automatic or manual mode. It just keep running over 4k rpm under 100 km/h.
Before those issues, the engine light keeps lighting, (sometimes it will go off) and I sent to a garage cost lot of $$$ and fixed nothing.
Can somebody give me some advise? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for reply.
The shop just told me their computer can not access the car.
I have a 16 pin cable with me. But now just try a way to connect to the computer with the VAGCOM. However, what I meet is the cable is found but I still can not run a scan to meet the demand of "please test on a car to see the serials number".
By the way, I live in a small town. I don't like to call a tow truck to tow it, and I and my girlfriend has a fight to decide to sell it to junk yard or not. I really like it and want to keep it, so then I need to get here for help.

It looks like you have a 5 cylinder engine and you get misfires on 4 of the cylinders. Now, I never seen a 5v Audi engine and what type of ignition setup has (edit: self-contained coils vs wires; that was the idea), but I would first look into the following:
- voltage regulator (may be related to the 18010 code)
- coils/wires
- spark plugs
- timing belt (may have jumped a tooth or is loose - tensioner problem?)
What's that no 14 fuse responsible for in your car? You have to know that.
As far as the transmission, although it sounds like you have a different problem, you may want to READ HERE
good luck

Thanks for chefro's comment.
The car should have 6 cylinders.
1.Coils & wires are fine, their resistances are in a normal range about 24K ohm ( I checked it though every two wire terminals of cylinder 1&6, 2&4, 3&5).
2.The spark plugs should be fine, I have be change 3 set of spark plugs! (dirty garage!)
3. Now I am stucking on finding location of the voltage regulator. By the way, how should I to check the power supply terminal 30 and where to find it? I went though the smaller one red cord from the positive terminal of the battery, and it goes around behind the relay box which under the hood in driver side and I have no idea where it goes. I will post the photo later.

It's a 99 A6 2.8 Q --
Regulator is part of the alternator.
clean the ends of the ground wire that goes between the chassie and motor
Likewise - the other ground wires where they attach to the body - I believe they are on the left front and rear...
Clear the codes and see what returns
