please please HELP
Im at a dead end,
i have a a6 1996 2.8 qu and it will not start i drove it fine then five mins later i got into it and nothing. it did happen two times before but after about 5 mins it started fine.
i have had a garrage look at it and they put a computer on it and they told me it was the crankshaft sensor so they replace that and it still would not start they had it for about a week then they could not give a solushoine to the problem. it will fire over like it wonts to start but will not. i do remember seeing the temp gaude at minus 41 degres when i was tryiny to start it not sure if this means any thing or not please help me i just dont know what to do . many thanks for any help.

These cars will often give a crank position sensor error when they are not running. This sounds more like a cam position sensor problem. A bad cam sensor can be intermittent at first and it might work fine when it is cold but not when hot. The cam sensor is only needed at startup so if it fails while the car is running the car will keep running until you shut it off and then you will not be able to restart the engine.
This will also throw a code and the garage should see the cam position error code - a garage with a VAG-COM or Audi specific code reader may be needed. If it is the cam position sensor it is simple to change and the cost for a new one is probably about $150. When this happened to my daughter's 2.8 I purchased a used one for $70, installed it in about 10 minutes and the car was fine.

Is it the coolant temperature that was being read at -41 degrees? If that is the case, I would look at replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor (CTS). Less than $50 and takes 20 minutes to change on a cold engine.
