power steering moan/whine
My 2001 A6 Quattro has suddenly developed a moaning/whining sound when I turn the wheel at very low speeds or in a stopped position. Suspect that I have a pump problem, belt problem or low fluid problem (no evidence of leaking on the pavement). Any comments? I also have an unopened bottle of Audi fluid that I had bought for my previous Audi and is maybe 7 or 8 years old. If level is low, any problem in using this old bottle? Thanks for your help.
first check your fluid level. Next tighten or better yet replace all of the clamps the ones on the hose on top of the pump loosen up and let air in check those first. they let air in not oil out so you are not looking for a leak... but if you find one that's not good either. Get Good clamps I got mine at west marine they do not have slots all the way through so it wont mar the hose and you can get them alot tighter. Then change your fluid to AUDI G 004 000 M2 fluid it will mix with CHF11s so if you have some left in there it's OK. The new fluid reduces whining/cavitation on cold mornings.
