Default power windows posessed

my passenger side window in my 00 4.2 started going down on its own yesterday when i was on my way to a wedding. i tried putting it back up and it would only go a third of the way and then immediately back down. now my drivers side window will not go up at all, but will go down no problem. anyone else have these problems before?

it could be a faulty switch or simply needs reprogram, hold the switch all the way down and the same for up

I had a similar problem with my power window. Mine, however, was just on the rear passenger side window. Once I opened up the switch assemly, it turns out that there was water there and shorting the circuit. I really didn't know how the water got there but I pulled the switch out and dried it overnight. It was working fine afterwards.

Yours sounds like the master switch as techbod said. Expensive part but the repair sould take less than 30 minutes. Good luck.

My driver side window has no problem going down. But if I try to make it go up, it would go up 1/2 inch, then all the way down automatically. I just have to make it go all the way down before I can bring it back up.
I haven't really take it to the mechanic, because it is not a big issue for me, yet, and who knows how much it will cost.

did it just randomly go down or did you roll it up when it went down. if the latter is the case i would say your track is slightly pinched but givin other windows are messed up and it works if the window goes all the way down i would go with what they said.

sounds like window clips to me. Now that is assuming the problem with both windows didn't start on the same day. You didn't specify what "now" means.

lol...I was just going to ask the same question. I have a 2000 4.2 and when I lock the car ALL 4 Windows go completely down. When the car is running the windows work perfectly, but the locks begin to bug out and start to open and close lol. wtf
