Price for 2000 A6 with shot engine?
I have a black 2000 A6 2.8 with 170,000 miles. I just found out the engine is shot (maybe pistons bent?... not sure as I'm not very tech saavy). Local salvage companies are offering around $500. I am wondering if anyone has advice regarding the best place to sell the car (craigslist?) - and what sort of price should I expect?
The car is in average condition (there is a tear in the leather (seat) of the drivers seat & a few knicks to the exterior (although no dents).
Any advice is appreciated.

if you want to get the most money possible out of it your best bet is to part it out piece by piece. this is time consuming and requires some mechanical ability on your part unless you expect people to come to you to pick their own parts.
you are most likely not going to have a lot of luck trying to sell the whole thing as-is because few people are going to want to spend the money for a car that needs a new engine. Also, no one is really going to need an entire car just to scavenge for a few parts they might need. You could get lucky and find someone who will buy the whole thing but don't expect much more than maybe $1000 out of it.
if you really just want/need it gone you are probably going to have to take what the salvage guys are offering. you may be able to find a euro specific salvage place that will take it to do their own part out and they may give you more for it, but not that much more.
good luck
