Default Problems getting into reverse

Hi Everyone,

First of all Merry Christmas!

More problems with my car! I have a 2006 Audi A6 7 speed Auto 2.0 Diesel.

While driving the other day the engine management light came on. Everything seemed fine while driving. I parked up thinking it was glitch hoping the the error would clear by the next day but it did not. The next day I could not put the car in reverse. The gear lever oult not get out of park, so I used the override button near the gear lever and was able to get the car into gear. I managed to get out of my drive, but later on in a car park I tried to reverse into a parking space and put the car in reverse. As I tried to accelarate and the engine just reved and the car hardly moved. After around 5 seconds the beeped into reverse and let me reverse.

I did some testing. I tried to put the car into reverse and sometimes it took a good 5-10 seconds before I heard the reverse beep and the car engaged into reverse. A few times it really clunked/jerked into gear. I seems like I have to put it in gear and wait a bit before trying to reverse.

I managed to get a diag done on the car and it showed the following. I did get the codes cleared thinking it may sort the problem out but it did not:

---------------------

Component: AG5 Getriebe 09B 0248
1 Fault Found:
00300 - Transmission Fluid Temp. Sensor (G93)
27-10 -- Implausible Signal - Intermittent

-------------------------------------------------

After getting the codes cleared and drivng the car for a few day I got another diag done, but nothing showed up as an error, bit I still have the problem.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Thanks

I would tend to believe that the transmission fluid temperature sensor is faulty / acting up, which is more of less putting your TCM into some type of safe mode because it can't determine how much or how little fluid is in the transmission. You might be thinking how temperature is related to how full of under filled the unit is. When refilling an Audi transmission, it is actually done from below the car without a traditional dipstick. So when doing the process one must use the temperature of the fluid as a guide to when add more fluid so it's full.

The torque converter and basically the entire transmission is heavily dependent upon fluid. It's actually pretty amazing how the how thing works when you see a video on just what is inside of the unit. In short, the fluid in an auto transmission is the life blood of the unit. Without it the unit will not function correctly, which is what you are most likely seeing here.
