Default putting a slightly narrower tire?

My oem tire size is 45/235R17 on my a6. though my cousin has tires left over that are 45/225R17. could i put his tire on my rims because they are slightly narrower? is it worth putting a narrow tire to save some cash..what are the negatives?

Default Tire

Hi,

Going from a 235 down to a 225 width tire is NOT going to hurt anything on your car. And yes the tire will fit on the same 17" rim as the OE Tire. You might actually find that in the long run, buying a slighty smaller width tire can save you a bit of money when its time to replace them as well as some cash over the long run when it comes to fuel costs. Those smaller tires believe or not, do take less power to turn and result in less rolling resistance. This will result in a a small savings for fuel over the life of the tire.

This weekend I replaced my coils, sparkplugs, cleaned my injectors, cleaned and put di-electric grease every terminal I could find. My air filter was new.
My MPG went from18/19 to 20/21. Nicer idle/smoother.

I was thinking of a chip but I am afraid of the posible side effects. As in;it doesn't work and I waste money.

My 02-A6 3.0 has 113k and I have no idea when the last time it was done. I just bought it and serviced absolutely every single thing. But this was the only thing that increased my MPG.
