About the only choice you have to modify the 2.8 is the PES supercharger kit. It's a true bolt-on and it'll bring the HP up close to 300 wth a corresponding leap in torque level. Tain't cheap, but nothing is these days.

My family owns a car dealership and we use www.tirewarehouse.net, for some aftermarket parts like vents for windows and hood savers and stuff like that.. well when i go to there website, I see that they have this item forsale thats a chip, part number 65002 Chip ECM upgrade for 273.00...would this be another avenue then supercharger kit?

IIRC 99 A6 only came with a 2.8

Therefore pretty much your only chipping option is to go with GIAC's engine chip. It adds about 10hp. They also make a tiptronic chip which is cheaper and BY FAR the best value. It reduces shift times from 1sec to about .2sec.

You can get custom intake manifold/throttle body porting, custom exhaust setup, air intake or filter replacement and lightened pulleys that all add to addl ponies.

btw PES G2 supercharger has rarely dyno'd much over 200hp on the 2.8 engines. Not a single person has gotten the claimed 285-295hp crank hp from PES's kit. I believe they detuned it so as to prevent tranny and engine strain. It is still a great alternative to anything else.
