Quicky
Headlights just burnt out on me. Was wondering if when I pick up new bulbs tomorow, can I grab some nice new "Hyper Whites" without buying a kit? Or am I stuck with a regular halogen lights? 99 a6 quattro is my ride.
I'd just grab some sylvania silver stars, since those "hyper white" bulbs usually draw more power and typicaly don't last that long. The previous owner of my a6 put some in the fog and headlight (one side only) and eventually the light bulb burned out very quickly and it seems the wire has also burned a hit. If you do really want those bulbs get a better wire harness for the lights or got HID. Also, don't just do one side since if one side burned out its not to long till the other side will.

The Sylvania Silver Stars are decent. If you really want to spend a few bucks, go with PIAA Super Plasma's. They cost about $70 or so but they are really nice!

For $70.00 you can now get an HID kit and get almost 3 times the light output... Just 3 years ago the cost would have been close to $600.00.

You have to watch products on Ebay.....there is alot of junk on there.
I don't disagree that there is a lot of crap on eBay, especially when it comes to HID. A lot of so-called Xenon bulbs, which don't do jack for lighting, just provide some purple tint and do not come with ballasts/igniters.
I am however familiar with the HID technology and bought from several vendors, including the one listed above.
HID has become cheaper as there are a lot of vendors out there, but all kits are for "Off-Road Use Only" because they are used to replace halogen bulbs in regular headlight assemblies and not installed in upgraded projectors (read costly). Unless your lights are really bluish/purple I doubt any cop will pull you over just to see if you have an illegal HID setup in your car/bike. I should know, I have been using such kits on my last 3 BMW bikes...
In the end it is your money, and if you feel your life could depend on better lighting at night you should investigate.
