Looking at rack systems for a soon-to-be-bought 2006 A6 sedan/Quattro. I'd like to take my Thule system with me but there is no fit-kit available. I'd hate to go to a new system (like Yakima) since I'd have to buy everything new.

Does Audi make a detachable roof rack system?

Other ideas?

I have a full THULE set up on my A6 saloon and it fits great. Who told you there is no fitmant kit? They are full of it. I had an Acura, Audi A4 and now the A6 and all I ever had to change were the mounting feet between each car becasuse of the contour and width of the roofline. Go to www.thule.com or your local shop and ask. Mine fits great and there are no whistles. I did have to upgrade my front valance from the A4 to the A6 because of width. Don't buy Yakima. I had thier system on my Lumina and it wasn't nearly as sturdy or as good of quality as the THULE. You'll spend more $$ for the THULE but you get what you pay for.

 

That's good news, I just have to figure out the fit kit.

Well...I just bought the kit for my car (feet) and it mounts perfect. The web site is probably incomplete (as most are when parts listing). I checked 3 dealers and called Thule tech support and got the same line - July, 2007 availability.

Perhaps he just transformed an A4 kit...

 

Well, now that I have re-read this thread, that makes sense. I didnt initially see you were a 2006 A6. I own a 2001. If they are saying July of 07 thats really not that far away. Its well worth the wait though. Thule is an awesome brand. Sorry for the confusion.

 

no problemo. I got a note from your Seattle shop. John Bauer was clever. He found an 06 A6 rack kit from Yakima and found they used the same kit for the Honda Ridgeline. He then found the Ridgeline kit by Thule, 2163. There is no guarantee this will work, but it looks right.

Problem with July is that I'm still skiing now!
I might just use the fold-down till then, though I'd much rather have an inside pass-through.

Wow that does seem like it just might work, using the Thule 2163 Honda Ridgeline Fit Kit on the 2006 Audi a6. Would be interested to know if anyone has actually gone through and tried this "unsanctioned" fit.

Can somebody post some pics of a late model A6 with roof racks - esp THULE? I've collected THULE accessories for a long time but have been reluctant to go forward with the racks on my beautiful new car. Thanx Ed
