Random Misfire Codes - What's wrong now?
The car will start but idles rough and won't go. Here are the codes I pulled:
Address 01: Engine
Controller: 4B0 907 551 AL
Component: 2.7l V6/5VT G 0001
Coding: 06752
Shop #: WSC 02325
WAULD64B52N070368 AUZ7Z0A1963072
4 Faults Found:
16684 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0300 - 35-00 - -
16688 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0304 - 35-00 - -
16690 - Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
P0306 - 35-00 - -
16689 - Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
P0305 - 35-00 - -
Since these are all on one bank, would it be safe to assume that one of the ignition modules on the air box has gone bad? I have been getting an occasional hesistation, or "gulp" as I like to describe it, and someone said that was a sign of ignition modules going bad. I susposed I could swap wires and see if the faults move the the other side, but its cold and snowing outside!
Thanks in advance,
Bob

Update: swapping the wires to the output modules (I looked up the name!) made the problem go away. Switching the wires back the problem stayed away. So, we shall wait and see if it comes back. If it does, I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is.

Its a well known fact in the 2.7T S4 world that the coil packs cause random static misfires after the 100k mark. I had them in my S4 and got a check engine light every 300-400 miles after clearing the light. It would occasionally "burp" when coming to a stop, or you would feel a slight stumble when switching between gears. Changed the coil packs from a set i got from ECStuning and never had a problem after that. So if they come back i would be looking at changing all the packs.
