This appears to be a common problem. do a search for "window regulator clip" that is usually the culprit. I believe there is a pretty decent youtube video that walks you through the process of fixing it. really easy. cheap part.

I agree. I have changed the clips on my 98 A6, causing the same issue. The plastic clips break. It does take some time to open up the door and remove the window. I would have a friend help you when you swap out the clips.

I have same problem on front passenger window, it goes up half way thru and seems it goes out of alignment so it goes back down. I have to push the window up while holding the button.

Is window regulator clip different from window regulator? I couldn't find anything for window regulator clip. Here's what i found

Window Regulator - Auto Parts Warehouse

The clip is part of the regulator, it is what connects the window to the regulator.

They look like this, but the ones from the dealer that are newer are red.
AUDI A6 WINDOW REGULATOR CLIPS FRONT RIGHT | eBay

I bought my clips from a dealer, but had to go to 2 to buy just the clips. One dealer would not sell me the clips only the regulator. Another dealer sold me just the clips.

Not sure if those will work or not. Just trying to show you a picture of what the window clips look like. I would try to buy the part from a dealer. Or verify that the part your getting fits your car.
