rear bumper

have a question about rear bumper
I own a 01 a6 2.7 and I've seen a few around me and just about if not all of there exhaust come straight through the rear bumper but mine don't. It bends down and there is nowhere for an exhaust to come out.
My question is, do I need to get a new bumper before I get my exhaust or what do I need to do??
