Rear leg room of A6 compared to A4
Hi all...first post...I've been searching around trying to decide on a new car and am pretty interested in the A6...but am wondering what others thought on the leg room. I am 6'3ish and need the room for my almost 4yo to fit behind me (7 month old has the other side!). My current 03 Jetta just is not cutting it any more to say the least
If I am thinking right, the A4 is basically the Passat correct? Is the rear legroom any better in the A6? His legs are just getting squished in my Jetta with my seat all the way back!
also, how is the maintenance? I can tackle, or am not too afraid to try to tackle most things save timing belt type stuff (that does scare me!).
basically though, for those tall with kids, how does the A6 work for you? I'm looking at a 2000 to 2003 model year...maybe v8 if I can find it, or the v6 (I'm ready to get out of a turbo).
Thanks!

Steve,
The A6 will probably fit your bill for leg room as it is MUCH more roomy than an A4. The A6 will probably NOT fit your bill for maintenance. Read the sticky for the 2.7t as most of the items pertain to all the models.

Thanks Bob, I'll look at the sticky...I'm kinda thinking maintenance is a pain on any car in the price range I'm looking at...I have to replace the cat back on my jetta now...which is not hard, but man its creepy getting that deep under a 2000 lb auto!
LOL. An A6 quattro weighs around 3900 lbs. My daughter's A4 has more leg room than the 330i I looked at years ago, but not as much as the A6. Even with the seat all the way back, there is still legroom (albeit not much). A backseat on a standard sedan is a backseat. I expect that if you want real legroom + greater reliability you should be looking for an A8L with the 4.2 engine,
Good point on A8L. Cost difference between A6 4.2 and A8L 4.2 is pretty negligible. If you can find A8L that is.
As for the legroom, I am about 6'3" and my 4 year old son is doing fine in the back. Although he is in the center, he is fine and I never get kicked in my back. I have other adult sitting behind my back when needed.
As for the reliability question, you are driving a german vehicle. Let's just put it at that. I think 4.2 probably is the most reliable of the bunch.
