Default Rearview mirror adhesive

I have a 2000 2.7 and my rearview mirror fell off. It's the dimming type. There is a black circle on the windshield where it was attached. I was wondering if there was any special type of adhesive out there or do I need to take it to the dealer. They will charge $65 to reattach it, but I have to wait a week or so to get it into the shop. I would appreciate any advice you guys could give before I drop the car off next week. Thanks

My cousin had a smilar problem with his BMW, he tried several types of glues to get a quickfix. Ultimately, he has to take it to the dealer to fix it. If I were you, I would take it to the dealer. Sometimes, it is better to pay the dealer. I don't want my mirror falling down on me when I am doing 80 on my car.

I'd visit an Autozone first and ask them. Adhesive glue be glue. But the mounting plate may be the challenge.

I have a 2006 2.7T and mine fell off as well. Stealership wants $714.00 for a replacement ---> (_o_) Ouch!
They used some adhesive to re-mount it, but as soon as the weather got hot, the glue failed, and now the plastic around the mounting is all deformed. I'm trying to separate the mirror assy. from the mounting bracket/ball, and wonder if just the bracket is avail from Audi.

mine fell off the other day with no damage to the glass or mirror (just hung by the wires) went to a AutoZone to see about getting an adhesive strong enough to put back in place. They didnt feel any they had would work well enough. They called Audi and they said to go to any glass/windshield co and they should be able to fix it fine. Took in in that morning got it back 15 min later and it cost me $10.

The dealership wanted me to pay $386 for a new mirror. They wouldn't just sell me the little mounting button. I tried every adhesive available and none of them would hold..

what would yo expect the dealership to say ? I took my a6 in for 70k service and was told I needed about 5k worth of other **** done to it. if the window and the mirror are in good shape take it into a auto glass co and they will re-attach it. I've been driving mine around for more than a week since they fixed mine in 100degree heat and humidity and mirror is holding strong.
