Default Replacement of cam adjuster seal

My Audi is 2001 A6 2.8Q and today 50,300 miles.
When last week I visited a dealer shop for oil change, they advised me replace cam adjuster seal with new one. The seal potentially has problem. The quote is around $ 1,000 including labor. For sudden unexpected expense I did only oil change without the replacement.
Is it right? Should I replace that now? In the job, do I need additional work as well??
Though I have extended warraty for certified used car, the warranty doesn't cover the replacement.
It looks a kind of hidden cost.
Could you recommend independent mechanic around Vernon Hills, IL? or Could you advise me how to maintain this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Default RE: Replacement of cam adjuster seal

I think they're referring to the cam seals. First thing I'd do is double check with the dealer. There was a recall for this on my 1998 A6 2.8Q.
The dealer changed them once at no charge. Unfortunately - it started leaking again not too long after.
$1,000 in labor is excessive. It's not more than a days work and the seals are inexpensive. If I recall, just the valve covers need to be removed.
