Default rough idle after filling up with gas

2000 Audi A6 Avant.

I have this weird problem that everytime I fill the Audi up with petro, it starts roughly then goes away within a couple of seconds. Sometimes I have to crank it twice for it to start.
Any ideas?

Maybe the gas quality. Try out a tank of name-brand: SHELL 93 Octane to see if any difference.

change your fuel filter and try not to vapor lock it

it's not a gasoline quality issue as I've tried using high grade before. I'll change the fuel filter but what's the vapor lock all about?

Its running your car completely to "e" or empty and over filling it. It creates a sucking action and with you remove your gas cap it may be tight or hard to even turn.

It will throw a code pertaining to your fuel tank and can actually cause failure in your pump.

ah yes, the V.L. I don't often do that but will keep an eyeball on it. Audi's are always throwing codes though, they're very....

I recently sent in the ABS Module for a rebuild along with the display with the garbled message center. Now I only have one light on (C.E.), doesn't look like such a Christmas tree.

I repaired a display on a very pristine 100 that I had but sent the A6 display in for the repair.

Do some searching here and at Audiworld I have read threads at one or the other on this problem it has to do with your charcoal filter filling with fuel and pushing fuel back through to the intake causing your engine to flood itself when you refuel.

Be sure when you refuel to stop fueling when the nozzle clicks off because trying to top off the tank seems to lead to the problem your having. The charcoal filter is located under the spare tire well underneath the car there is a plastic cover on it they say if you remove it and it is rather heavy it is full of fuel and needs to be changed out.
