I know this is a question thats been milked, But i cant seem to find the difference. Will the RS6 grill fit an 01 4.2 since its the wide body like the RS6 and not the narrowbody of the 2.7/2.8 or is it about the 02 and up having a different front? I know it was changed in 02, but ive seen 01 and 00 4.2's with the RS6 grill.

Yes, it is "almost" plug-n-play. You have to change the hood latch as well (or slightly modify the grille so the stock latch will work. Other than the latch, the grille itself is a direct fit to the 4.2 hood. The only problem is that your lower grille will not match, and the RS6 lower grille will not fit the stock 4.2 bumper.

 

It will fit if you have it done correctly. It will cost you though. The cheap knock offs don't fit very well. I was quoted at the stealership to get the real deal front from the RS6 with installation for 2 grand.
