I have a '00 A6 2.7T Manual with a 160,000 miles. I know my mileage is quite high and therefore more risky when it comes to upgrades/mods.

So I was wondering what are some cost efficient tweaks I can get done without causing any harm (long-term/Short-term) to the car.

Any easy horsepower/torque boosts/acceleration/exhaust/etc...

Any information will be helpful, I'm a noobie I guess, but hey everyone has to start somewhere at one time or another.

My major concern is due to my mileage.

just busting you *****. i agree that your mileage is a concern but if done properly most mods for our cars are not really more likely to break anything.

unfortunately, there really aren't any "cost efficient" anything for our cars. the best place to start is with a chip tune (sticky) that runs $500-$700 depending on the tuner, what deals are going, which program(s) you are looking at. The drawback is that you have to pull your ECU and send it off to them, or take it to a shop that will pull your ECU and send it out. Beware of prices that seem too good to be true.

most of the cheap mods that seem to work on other cars really don't do anything for ours. our intakes are already quite good. exhaust is one of those things that can cost you a lot of money for negligible gains. not worth doing unless/until you upgrade a bunch of pricey engine stuff first.

if you have a lot of money lying around you can get really crazy with turbos and injectors and heads and pistons....from there.

were I you I would probably just start saving my money for the routine repairs that will be needed with 160K on the clock

 

At 160k, you ought to start thinking about your second timing belt job: about $900 at an indie shop; ~$1200 at the dealer. It's six hours labor + parts.
