Default Serious transmission problem?

Hi all. I've got an A4 and an A6, both '97 Qattro 2.8L automatics. The A4 has 240,000+ miles on it and the A6 about 150,000. I love them both. But recently the A6 has given me an odd problem. Sometimes it doesn't want to change gears. If I come to a complete stop, and then start again, it seems to be okay. It's only happened a couple of times in the last 2 weeks or so.

Is this a sign of a dying transmission? Or something else? What does transmissions repair/replacement cost?

Thanks,
Jim

Gearshift jolts; individual gears slipping; gearshifts take too long Note[/align] The illustration shows this fault with the valve body dismantled. The valve body must not be dismantled for workshop servicing. t Possible fault: One of the 3 rubber dampers in the valve body cracked -arrow-. t Fault rectification: – Check condition of ATF
If ATF is OK: – Renew valve body. If ATF is not OK, the fault was not identified and repaired quickly enough. In this case, clutch “G†is probably also damaged. – Dismantle and clean complete gearbox. – Clean ATF pipes and ATF cooler. – Dismantle and check all clutches. – Renew valve body .

Did you fix your transmission problem, because I have something similar it gets stuck sometimes and the mechanic told me it's the brake light bulb, I changed the bulb and it got decreased but still get stuck sometimes.

The original poster joined just to make his only post and never came back, so we don't know the resolution.
Not sharing that kind of info after crying for help just plain sucks!!!
