Several 2.7T Tune Up ?s w\o clear answers on the forum
I have been searching throught the forum for a few hours looking for some answers related to some things I want to "tune up" in the next few weeks. Looking for some knowlege from the people who have been driving these cars for longer than the month that I have been.
1. I have bought a fuel filter for the car, but am unclear on where it is located. In the same post I found people saying it was in the pass rear by the fuel tank, and others said it was in the pass front engine compartment. So, on a 2.7T...where is it?
2. I bought 6 "Denso" plugs, no ?'s on how to replace them. Just wondering about brand reputation. I couldn't find the Bosch plugs for this car anywhere locally or online. I understand that Denso is a japanese brand used in alot of Pacific sporty racing vehicles. My other ride is a Honda, so I trust Japanese relaibility.
Do plugs and fuel filters seem to help with wet weather hesitation???
Also, off topic, I want to change the trans and diff fluid in my car, as I am confident that it is origional, and the car has 103,000 miles on it. I have seen that many people have used Redline D4 fluid with no probs, and it is much cheaper than Audi fluid. However, where can I buy it online, and how much do I need for an '01 5spd Tip? Where can I find the tran filter? Where can I find good diff fluid online, and what is the recommended weight, and how much? How much should I expect to pay for these services all together combined?
Thanks Alot All,

1. Fuel filter- I have a 4.2 and am in the same quandry.
2. Denso plugs are fine quality. Make sure the heat range is correct. My owners manual cautions to use the same electrode-arrangement as well. I sourced the Bosch plugs from two Audi specialty places, one was ECS tuning the other I don't recall at present. RockAuto is a good source for this type of OEM replacement-part though. The plugs might help with a hesitation, but the correlation with wet weather is odd. These cars-- I assume all engine types-- have coil-on-plug arrangements. So a faulty plug wire isn't possible. Perhaps you have a failing coil, I've heard thats not uncommon. Or perhaps one isn't properly seated on the plug. I'd say check for boost leaks too- again, if it weren't for the wet-weather correlation.
3. Redline also makes suitable diff lubes if you want to go that route, I have the recommended weights at home. I did two searches for vendors- the first on Froogle (not google products, I think) and sorted the results by price. Then I queried for Redline and 'free shipping', since a quantity of fluids is going to be heavy. Then I checked Summit Racing and Jegs for their current policy on handling and shipping charges. Thta course of action should get you good results.

Purchase a Bentley manual, it will tell you how to replace everything, & change things.
Trans will run fine with redline, google it, you will find it for sale.
Changing the trans fluid is a little more difficult then just empty & refill, we have talked about it a lot.

I changed my fuel filter so I can tell you that it is on the passengers side just infront of the rear tire. this is the same for the 4.2 as well.........quick tip pull out the regularor. this will help get the fuel prussure out of the lines. I didn't and I got a fuel surprise in the face. second tip take your time the attachments are not super strong you don't want to break them.
as for the plugs I would suggest getting the bosh side fire plugs. the denzos were ok but I swaped them out for the bosh and I noticed less miss fires and a better idle....I got my bosh plugs from vast performance. I was unable to find them any where else.
