Yup. My old man's 2000 A6 2.7T has had the ABS warning light on for 5 months. He has had the brakes checked out by a Luxury shop in his town and the brakes are fine but he needs to drive 4 hours to the only Audi dealership in the province to clear the error. Has not bothered to do that yet.

I am not sure why vag com could not be used, I have been able to use it to recode my abs module and cluster in the past

I dont think the code will dissapear with the reflash. You probably have a faulty abs module. I am in the process of having it repaired and have the same code.

P1606 is for rough road detection/engine specified torque from ABS control module---electrical malfunction. The specified corrective action is to check the CAN bus. This means to pull all the connectors in the CAN bus for the ABS and clean them and verify there is no harness damage or problems in the CAN bus.
