Default ABS lamp on - Vag P1606

Hi all,
Been hanging out here for a while, but this is my first post.

I am looking to pick up a '00 A6 2.7T 6mt.
But both the ABS and Brake lamp are always on.
Thevag code is P1606
"Rough Road Spec Engine Torque ABS-ECU Electrical Malfunction"
The car drives (& stops) fine, although I have not tested the abs (i.e. slamming on the brakes on a wet road)

What are some of the potential costs?
Can you guru's help me out?

Is this just a sensor($100 or so?) that needs replacing?
Or the module ($1200? - is that the right ball park?) that has gone south?
Or it is something all together different?

Trying to decide if I should just walk away...
Thanks for your help.
tdk.

My money's on the ABS control module. A new part and repair at dealer or indy shop will run about $1400 with a new part. Try modulemaster.com for a $200 repair and about $60 in postage both ways for a total of about $260. If you can pull it and reinstall it you'll save about $2-300 in labor. The instructions on the website are very good and took me about 1.5 hour each to remove and replace the module. Everything is working great and they are great folks at Module Master. I hope it works out as well for you as it did for me. I would certainly use the dealer or indy costinfo to negotiate the price of the purchase if I was buying the car.
