short shifter for A6?
I wouldn't do it. I really don't think it is great for the tranny to powershift and such. But since it is your car and something you want, I am pretty sure B&M makes one. Check Vast too. I've seen quite a few out there.
Just to clarify, I had a shifter (steeda tri-ax) on my old mustang and it was designed in such a way that you could shift as hard as you wanted since it had stop bolts in the design. You could pop it in second and keep spinning the tires and get that chirp in third. I would get that again in a heartbeat if I was to ever get another Mustang. The Audi is a different animal. Even though some people get into it and turn in some awesome times, the car was never designed for the abuse of drag racing. The stock shifter is very smooth, but I don't believe it was ever designed to rip through the gears. The aftermarket ones seem to just shorten the throw, but don't add any protection from stock. From reading the manual, Audi advises to keep your hand of the shifter unless you are shifting or you may cause damage to the tranny. I wouldn't say you have to completely baby it, but I wouldn't be shopping for short throws since their only real purpose is for aggressive shifting.
On a side note, my mechanic who works on Audi and Porsche likes the Audi manual as much or even bettter than that of Porsche.
Thats my two cents on top of two cents for a grand total of $0.04.

This may be for 2001 and earlier... I read somewhere that there was a change in the 2002 model year. Give ECS a call to make sure... http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...ort%20Shifters
