RE: Stereo Questions...
I think the plastic box in the right hand side of the boot/trunk is an external amp. If you change the factory head unit the rear speakers wont work. I had to but an additional plug in adaptor that fits between your after market head unit and factory wiring. The adaptor cost me about £30.
If you gonna change the speakers then you might as well just run new wiring to the head unit, The amp isnt that good any way.

RE: Stereo Questions...
well...
really what i was mainly interested in if i could use the factory wiring for the new stereo without having to run new wiring...
but if its that way then might as well.
gonna be runing a complete JL system with an Eclipse HU.
last question...
is the door speaker a 5.25", is that right ???

RE: Stereo Questions...
ok
today i took the car out for a couple of hrs (car still at the lot... dealer has to do some paperwork, safety it and the emmision test it before they will hand the key over permanently)
and notice that its not the symphony but rather more dissapointing is a concert.
ohh well
still going the same way with things, but more less with 2 sets of JL Audio XR series 5.25 component set front and rear powered by the Eclipse headunit and for fill its gonna be W3v2 powered by a JL E1400D.
ohh welll..
does anyone have a schematic on the radio circuit ???

RE: Stereo Questions...
On my '01 A6 2.8, I just completed a total speaker replacment and added a JL Audio e4300 amp. Kept the stock Sym I h/u. I put MB Quart 6.5"s all the way around - PCE-216 upfront and RCE-216 in the rear. They are both 6.5" component, but mounted the RCEs coaxially. I think you would be safe with doing 6.5" upfront and in the back.

RE: Stereo Questions...
actually today i had a lil chat with the JL Audio rep today at a tent sale at the local stereo shop.
He said that the E series is not suited for my use told me to go with the slash series since its a better amp all together
even gave me and advice on what to use in the car to make it sound really sweet.
heres his recomendation:
Front speakers : XR650CSi
Rear Speakers : XR650CXi
Amps :
- Front : 350/4
- Rear : 500/1
Sub : 12W6v2
Also he said this setup will be as good as your signal wires (RCA's) and they shoul be about 20-30% of your budget.
He's gonna hook me up large said that if i buy the whole list he will give me the best RCA's the JL makes for free and talk to the local shop to do tha install for free..
so yeah, pretty good day.
Now gotts to convince the wife that i need $2K stereo in the A6

RE: Stereo Questions...
I paid about $300 total on my JVC HU and Infinity self-powered sub install from a local shop. Wires, harness and mount kit were about $150, install was another $150.
Crutchfield is normally a good resource but their data on A6's is terrible.
