Default Strange problem (or no) because of freezing

Hello,
I will try to explain my question. I have 2001 Audi A6 C5 with a 1.9tdi motor. It was cold (i mean -19C or -2F) outside last night and when I tried to start my car it started but very strangely. Well, I turn the key, wait for plugs to warm up (for light to turn off) and start my car, but when i start my car i hear nothing, just 3 secs later the car starts normally, maybe a little bit slowly but it is not so noticeable, So i want to ask you is it normal or no, Why do i need to wait for 3~ seconds, is there something installed in a car to protect something or there is something wrong, but it happens when it is cold outside. Accumulator is good.

Since you running a diesel and in cold weather you need a block heater installed. Diesels are horrible to start in extremely cold weather. The 3 sec wait is for the glow plugs to heat up to fire the misted diesel but if your whole engine is bone-cold..you can have problems and easily wear down a battery..hence the engine block heater.

Can you explain me a little bit? What do you mean saying block heater? What is that? And how this block heats engine?

I will try to explain again. there are 5 or 6 or 7 secs wait for glow plugs to heat up and 3 secs when I turn a key before engine starts.

You need a block heater, Diesel engines don't like to start on frozen air and they also need winterized diesel fuel when it's that cold.
The long delay might be a bad glow plug..check them.
Here's a link that explains the heater for a 2010 TDI but the same applies to all diesels:

Please do and let me know..I do also own an 89 MB TDwagon and I've had to basically do what I told you, it only has 318K miles so I've learned a few things about these diesels and cold weather. I can't wait to get an A6 3.0 Diesel eventually although I'm very happy with the 3.2..the US is just now getting the Audi A3 Diesel..who knows when we'll get the A6 but you can bet I'll make sure it has the block heater

Where is your home..just curious?

First thing I have done was that i tried Arctic diesel but it didn't help.
Now I need to change glow plugs.
